New COVID Guide for Protecting Wastewater Workers Available

As part of the early COVID response through WEF, we identified the knowledge gap that we really did not know if there was a waterborne infection route or if operators were at increased risk from bio-aerosols. I was part of the initial scoping and panelist recruitment effort for the WEF Blue Ribbon Panel as well as a reviewer of the final product. That work was finally published today and made available to the public.
It is encouraging to report that the risk to wastewater workers for COVID is low, but it is also a good reminder to wear appropriate PPE as there are many other potential pathogens in wastewater.
